INVINCIBLE FORCE Decomposed Sacramentum CD

Wow, another one from Dark Descent Records that grabs me to this degree? Last year, around the finish of the year, they gave us Oath Of Cruelty, which was some solid Morbid Angel worship. Enter Chile’s Invincible Force. They grow from a harsher thrash soil that seems to be bigger in their country. However, the sophomore album Decomposed Sacramentum sprouts branches aligning with OSDM, coating the aforementioned Morbid Angel vocals over Deicide-oriented riffs. From front to back, Decomposed Sacramentum loses almost no momentum, maintaining speed and abrasiveness throughout its entire runtime. Not a single track breaks the four-minute mark, allowing little room for play anyway. Literally, the only track that slows things down is the title track at the beginning and end. The majority is flattened, simplistic riffing with mean barking vocals overtop, causing a chorus that absolutely rules. It would have worked as a strong closer due to its exit strategy, so it’s a shame that “Hopeless Mortality” wasn’t dropped before it, rather than after. ​But focusing on the intense speed that makes up the rest, you can obviously find some of the thrashier roots underneath. “The Covenant” has such a chaotic approach, with the punch kicking in right away and a punkier rhythm holding the weight. The dramatic shift to more traditional death territory is just icing on the cake. I also really love how “Damned By Noise / Lust” brings this forth. Everything feels so dense in such a fantastic way, which the production aids with. ​Looking back at “The Covenant,” its descent into “The Shadows Over Canaan” captures the remaining tactics so perfectly. Things like the slow fade into an intense build-up help set Invincible Force apart despite their style being so unoriginal. Moreover, the wailing guitars colliding with horrid vocals and blasting drums nearly bring this to blackened territory. If nothing else, it gives you something to pick out from the crowd. Obviously we’ve heard this plenty of times before, and there’s nothing really new. But direct blasts of past glory are exactly what I crave sometimes, and these Chilean boys certainly nailed it down.
